Flying training is overseen by Marcus Dalgetty who is a panel examiner for the BMAA, UK microlight instructor, French microlight instructor, mountain pilot instructor for the PNVM, senior BMAA inspector and has over 14,000 hours of flying time most of which has been in the mountains. We endeavour to supply custom courses meeting your needs and time frame. The school is mostly fixed wing flying and you can bring your own aircraft if you wish . Flexwing flying is currently carried out on owners aircraft so if you want to come down and fly flexwing then please let us know and which type of aircraft you have. Tallard is a vibrant village to be based at and there are lots of things to see and do when you are not flying.
Our current training aircraft is the Flylight Nynja 912ULS with 100hp , transponder, analogue instruments, cabin heat for the winter and is equipped with Lynx intercoms. A very good training platform together with being an aircraft that allows long distance adventure flying.
I have been flying for over 30 years and mostly in the mountains. I learned to fly at Fylight Airsports at Sywell aerodrome where I eventually became an instructor. I ran a flying school at Perth airport in Scotland and then at Balado near Kinross. I moved to Tallard 13 years ago to run a full time school in France . I am a former hang gliding instructor at Glenshee in Scotland, former aerotow coach, tandem hang glider instructor, paraglider pilot, senior BMAA inspector, Rotax engineer, vice chairman of the BMAA Panel of examiners , PNVM mountain pilot instructor, BMAA wings instructor, DGAC instructor ....other interests include sailing, motor bikes, scuba diving and if I am not aloft then you will find me doing one of the above! I mostly run my courses with a maximum of two students and try to share all that I have learned along the way.
Tallard is a medieval village dating back to the 14th century. The chateau was constructed during the 14th century and was completed in the 16th century. There are many bars and restaurants in the village to keep you fed and watered whilst you stay here. Many good walks can be found in the vicinity without the need for a car and you will be sure to find something for everyone. The airfield is only 20 minutes walk from the village center. There are several bars and restaurants in the village. There is also a large supermarket right next to the airfield together with anything else that you may require in either Tallard or in Gap which is only ten minutes away. On site we have Beringer brakes, Aeromax for aircraft servicing or spares and we can help keep you airborne whether you are passing through or coming for a course.
There are two parachuting centres on the airfield and you can experience freefall from 15,000 feet if you feel the need for an adrenalin surge. You can do a tandem jump or an AFF course (accelerated free fall) course. Here you can see Paul who is completely at ease with what he is about to undertake.
When you are not flying with us there is so much to do. Around Tallard there are many superb walks that will take you into the heart of nature itself. We will be more than happy to point you in the right direction whether it be for hiking, the local markets or a great place to go and swim in the afternoons.
Nearby you will find Lac de serre Poncon which is europes largest man made reservoir and offers great places to swim, BBQ, water ski, kite surf, windurf and simply topping up on your sun tan. To get there you will need about twenty minutes by car. Even closer is Les trois Lacs which gets my vote and only takes ten minutes to get there.
